Asghar Farhadi’s won two important awards at tonight’s closing ceremony of the 69th Cannes Film Festival. Although the movie received mixed reviews after its screening yesterday, it looks like the jury liked it very much. As yesterday many critics emphasized how The Salesman is not Farahdi’s best work and it is not as strong as A Separation or The Past, some of the American critics put it on a higher level in comparison with the other films of the competition.

Asghar Farhadi and Shahab Hosseini

Asghar Farhadi won the Best Screenplay award for his adaption of Arthur Miller’s play. The story of the film is based on the relationship of a couple in a critical situation that leads them to move to a new home. Shahab Hosseini also won the Best Actor award for his performance as Emad, the husband.

These two awards make The Salesman the only film in Cannes 2016 to win more than an award. The film is releasing next month in France and its release date for Iran is still unclear.
